Le Mans, the Plantagenet City
Of course Le Mans,
The Plantagenet City
The city's history is closely linked to the dynasty of English kings.
The historic city center, the old town known as the Plantagenet City, bears witness to this, particularly with the Count's Palace, which houses the town hall.
The Roman walls, one of the best-preserved from the former Roman Empire, include 11 towers and two posterns.
In 2005, the city of Le Mans launched a lighting display for its historic site, the Night of the Chimeras, a Skertzò creation that highlights the city's rich heritage.
The City of the 24 Hours
This is Le Mans. Steeped in history yet also looking towards the future. And this has been the case since 1873 when the city allowed the American Wilbur Wright to build a biplane. The aviation era began, with all the economic boom that entailed. In 1923, the automobile entered the city and reigned supreme. It made its 24 Hours race one of the most famous and legendary in the world.
"Arche de la Nature" park
Located ten minutes from the heart of Le Mans, the Arche de la Nature offers visitors a vast natural space. Along the paths, walkers discover the river, the hedgerows, and the forest, and can visit the Water House, the Forest House, and the Prairie House (garden and farm).
In total, 500 hectares of nature are accessible to the public free of charge and at all times.
